For those with Macs running 10.8 or later, you can upgrade directly to Mac OS 10.13. This gives you complete access to synchronization and backing up of iOS 14.

For those with Macs with 10.6.8 you can upgrade directly to Mac OS X 10.11.6. You also might follow K Shaffer s suggestion to boot into Safe mode. If 1 or 2 are not ideal, upgrade to Mac OS X 10.11.6 or later to use iTunes 12.8s full functionality.
Try the combo update: < Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 >. MultiBeast 4.6.1 NVIDIA patches are NOT compatible due to the updated drivers which now includes all device IDs. As K Shaffer suggests, maybe you do not have the little bit of extra Snow Leopard update that allows it to download and install El Capitan. If you use Sleepenabler.kext, remove before updating. For example, the 2006 Mac mini Core Duo 1.83 will only run up to System 10.6.8, while the the 2008 Apple MacBook Air will only run up to 10.7.5. Some older Macintosh computers won’t run the latest version of OS X. If you use VoodooHDA, you will not need to make any modifications. Look up what version of OS X your Macintosh can run. You will have to reinstall the Patched AppleHDA using MultiBeast before rebooting. If you use Combo OpenCL Enabler, reapply it before reboot. If you use customized or edited graphics kexts, it will be necessary to make the edits again using the new drivers as a base.
